Canine Cough
Canine Cough is one of the more common and misunderstood illnesses in dogs. Often mislabeled as “Kennel Cough,” this contagious virus can actually be picked up anywhere dogs meet, from parks to neighbourhood walks. Our fact sheet explains what it is, how it spreads, and the best ways to protect your pet.

Zoonosis
A Zoonosis is an infection that can be shared by humans and vertebrate animals. In practice, however, the term generally refers to those infections which can be physically transmitted from animals to humans. Examples of infectious agents include bacteria, viruses, parasites and fungi.

Bloat/Gastric Dilation and Volvulus Syndrome (GDV)
There are many different illnesses in dogs that require rapid attention, but Bloat or GDV is the one condition that requires absolute immediate emergency treatment. It is imperative that pet owners are aware of the signs and symptoms of this condition and the urgency of the situation if it is suspected.

Hot Spots
Hot Spots, otherwise known as acute moist dermatitis, or pyotraumatic dermatitis, are a common occurrence in dogs prone to skin allergies. They are a localised area of skin inflammation and can become itchy. The occur more frequently under certain conditions, and in certain breeds of dogs, and while not immediately life threating, Hot Spots are quite uncomfortable for the dog and can develop rapidly, going from something the size of 10 cent piece to the size of a small dinner plate in a matter of hours.

Paralysis Tick
The paralysis tick (Ixodes holocyclus) is one of the most dangerous parasites for Australian pets. Found mainly on the East Coast of Australia, these critters thrive in bushland, shrubs and coastal areas.

Feline AIDS FIV
Feline AIDS FIV is caused by infections with Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). It is a viral disease which affects the immune system of cats, and can be potentially fatal. It is important to have your cat vaccinated against FIV from their very first immunisations as a kitten
Cat Flu, or Feline Virus, is the most common contagious and infectious disease in cats. It is an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection that can be caused by a number of different viruses, and will be more commonly seen in unvaccinated cats.
